BRINGING SCIENCE TO THE CLASSROOM: MEET THE PROFESSOR 2025

21-03-2025

On March 20th, Utrecht University held its annual Meet the Professor event, an inspiring initiative that brings researchers into primary school classrooms across the city. This unique program allows young students to meet real scientists, ask questions, and get a glimpse into the world of research. Professors travel by bicycle, wearing a characteristic golden medallion, and surprise students with engaging discussions about their field of expertise.

This year, Professor Jos Malda participated alongside Bram Nijhoff, visiting Paulusschool in Utrecht. With group 8A, they explored the fascinating world of regenerative medicine, discussing topics such as 3D printing, tiger cartilage, and 5-micrometer thick histology sections. The students were curious, engaged, and eager to learn more about how science can help heal the human body.

Meet the Professor is more than just a school visit—it’s a way to inspire the next generation of scientists. By making science accessible and relatable, the initiative aims to spark curiosity and encourage students to think critically about the world around them. The morning was both exciting and rewarding, and the team hopes the students enjoyed it just as much as they did!

A big thank you to Utrecht University for organizing this fantastic event, and to all the teachers and students who welcomed the professors into their classrooms. Until next year!
